There is currently no official Flipnote Studio application available for mobile devices. Originally developed by Nintendo for the DSi and 3DS systems, the software has been discontinued and was officially removed from the Nintendo eShop on March 27, 2023.

• Fix: You did not unlock the region lock. Western DSi consoles often have the Mobile Link menu disabled. You must use a save manager (like DSi Save Tool) to patch your flipnote_data_s.dat file to change the region flag to Japan.

Does Flipnote Studio Mobile Link Work Today (2025)?

The short answer is no—not in its original form.

• Official method: Impossible. The iOS app is gone, and the DSi’s Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service was permanently shut down in 2014. While Mobile Link didn’t use Nintendo’s online servers, it did rely on a local certificate that has since expired on most DSi consoles unless you never synced your system clock.
• The Mobile Phone issue: Modern smartphones (iOS 16+ and Android 13+) use WPA2/WPA3 security. The DSi only supports WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) and open networks. WEP is considered a major security risk, and modern phones will refuse to connect to it unless you jailbreak or use developer options.

The PC sees the DSi, but the DSi says "Transfer Failed."

• Fix: The server script likely crashed. Ensure your Python environment is up to date. Use the --legacy flag on the server script if available.
