Ombres a la foscor (Shadows in the Dark) is a gripping juvenile horror and suspense novel by Arturo Padilla de Juan that explores themes of survival, redemption, and the weight of past mistakes. Book Review: A Night of Reckoning
This novel masterfully blends the festive atmosphere of the Night of San Juan with a chilling supernatural mystery. Padilla excels at building tension, using the isolated setting of the San Miguel mountain to trap six friends with both a physical presence in the woods and the psychological "ghosts" of an accident from four years prior.
Atmosphere: The contrast between the "shortest night of the year" and the deep, dangerous shadows of the mountain creates a relentless sense of dread.
Themes: Beyond the scares, it is a poignant look at how guilt can erode friendship and the lengths people go to for survival.
Target Audience: Perfect for readers aged 12+ who enjoy fast-paced thrillers like those found on Amazon or Wattpad. Resumen por Capítulos (Chapter Summary) ombres a la foscor resumen por capitulos exclusive

Digging through old case files, Pons discovers that three other abandoned factories in the region have suffered similar "accidental" fires over the past decade. All were owned by the same shell company, Oscuritat S.L. (Darkness LLC). Each fire was preceded by the disappearance of a female factory worker. Pons realizes his wife’s accident occurred near the site of the first fire. He begins keeping a secret journal titled Les ombres, but he writes in code, fearing his office is bugged. The chapter ends with Nora finding a torn photograph in Rius’s possession: it shows Clàudia, alive, inside a factory that was supposed to have been empty.
A second fire erupts, this time at a textile museum. Pons and Nora arrive to find a survivor—a young Romanian immigrant named Irina, who speaks of being held captive in the basement of the factory for "training sessions." She describes a woman in a porcelain mask who ran the operation. Pons shows Irina a photo of Clàudia. Irina gasps: "That’s her. The Woman of Ashes." Pons is shattered. The chapter ends with a shocking revelation: Clàudia faked her own death to infiltrate the Brotherhood. The car accident was staged.
