Step 3: The In-Place Edit (Refedit) vs. Open

To modify an XREF:

• Command REFEDIT: Edit the XREF within the host drawing. Good for small tweaks. Warning: Version 2024 warns more aggressively about simultaneous edits by other users.
• Right-Click > Open XREF: Opens the source file in a new tab. Recommended for major changes, as it respects layer states and prevents "nested editing" crashes.

Problem: Slow performance with large files

Solutions:

• Use -PURGE (note the dash) → R → * → N to remove regapps
• Turn off selection preview: SELECTIONPREVIEW → 0
• Use external references (XREF) instead of inserting content directly
