4. If you’re troubleshooting without a schematic
Use these steps:
- Check: fuse, bridge diode, main cap voltage (~310–340V DC)
- Measure VCC on the PWM controller (~12–18V during operation)
- Test optocoupler (PC817) and TL431 on secondary side
- Look for burnt resistors, cracked transformer, or shorted output diode
Measurement and testing workflow (practical)
- Document nominal output(s) and current rating printed on the module.
- Inspect and perform continuity/isolation checks.
- Connect to an isolation transformer or use a bench supply for DC variants.
- Power with current limiting; monitor inrush and idle current.
- Measure DC outputs under no load, light load (10–20% rated), and full load if safe to do so.
- Record ripple (scope) and transient response to load steps.
- Thermal run: operate at expected load for 1–2 hours and observe temperatures.
- Perform EMI spot checks (if required) and validate against system sensitivity.
Stage 1: Input EMI Filtering and Rectification
- Components: Fuse (F1), NTC Thermistor, X/Y capacitors, Common mode choke (L1), Bridge rectifier (D1-D4 or a single GBU package).
- Function: AC mains enters, is filtered for electromagnetic interference, then converted to high-voltage DC (~300V DC).
