Starting with V-Ray 6, the traditional standalone V-Ray Material Library has been integrated into the Chaos Cosmos Browser.
There is no longer a separate "link" to download the library as a single file; instead, assets are downloaded individually or in groups directly through the V-Ray interface to ensure they are always up-to-date. How to Access and Download Materials
Open Chaos Cosmos: Look for the Chaos Cosmos Browser icon on your V-Ray toolbar or within the V-Ray Asset Editor. vray 6 material library link
Browse Categories: Navigate to the Materials section to see high-quality, render-ready assets for architecture, automotive design, and more.
Download and Import: Click the Download blue icon on a specific material, then use the green Import button to add it directly to your scene. Platform-Specific Access Starting with V-Ray 6 , the traditional standalone
3ds Max: Use the Chaos Cosmos button on the V-Ray toolbar. You can also set V-Ray as your default renderer to ensure all material swatches default to V-Ray shaders.
SketchUp/Rhino: Access materials via the Asset Editor by clicking the left-hand fly-out arrow or the Cosmos icon. V-Ray 6 installed (any edition: GPU, CPU, or Hybrid)
Legacy Assets: If you need to access materials from older versions, you can still find them in the Chaos Docs or manually add your own local library folders within the Asset Editor settings.
1. Prerequisites
- V-Ray 6 installed (any edition: GPU, CPU, or Hybrid).
- Chaos Cosmos – installed automatically with V-Ray 6 (if missing, re-run installer and check “Chaos Cosmos”).
- Active internet connection (first load downloads material previews and assets).
- Chaos account – free registration required for downloading assets.

If the library fails to load, close your 3D app, run the "V-Ray Material Library Downloader" from your Windows Start Menu / Applications folder, then restart.
Warning: Do not use old V-Ray 3/4/5 libraries
Older .vismat or .vrmat files from V-Ray 3/4/5 will work but lose V-Ray 6 features (e.g., no Clearcoat layer, broken translucency). Always prefer the V-Ray 6 optimized library inside Chaos Cosmos.
