Virar-alibaug Multimodal Corridor Route Map //free\\ May 2026
1. Corridor Overview
- Total Length: ~126 km
- Type: Multimodal (road + rail + utility corridor)
- Lanes: 6–8 lane access-controlled expressway
- Status: Proposed / Under planning (DPR completed by MSRDC)
- Key Benefit: Decongests Mumbai, connects northern to southern Maharashtra coastline.
Modal components
- High-speed expressway (limited-access) for private vehicles and intercity buses (2–3 lanes each direction).
- Dedicated mass rapid transit: light rail or regional metro aligned parallel to the expressway with stations every 4–8 km.
- High-capacity BRT on feeder sections where rail is infeasible.
- Integrated ferry terminals and roll-on/roll-off points for coastal segments and island/tourist connectivity.
- Freight lanes or designated windows for heavy vehicles to reduce local impacts.
- Park-and-ride facilities and multimodal interchange stations enabling transfers among car, rail, bus, and ferry.
Part 1: What is the VAMC? A Corridor of Three Phases
Before diving into the turns and towns, it is essential to understand that the VAMC is being developed in three distinct phases. The route map varies slightly based on which phase you are examining, as the corridor aims to ring around the dense heart of Mumbai.
- Phase 1 (Virar to Vasai): The northern spur.
- Phase 2 (Vasai to Palghar): Extending the western arm.
- Phase 3 (Palghar to Alibaug): The longest segment, swinging east and then south.
The route map effectively draws a massive western and southern arc around the existing Mumbai Suburban district. virar-alibaug multimodal corridor route map
Implementation and Updates
The project is being planned and executed by relevant Maharashtra state agencies, with possible central government support. Updates on the project timeline, detailed route maps, and tendering processes are usually published on official government or project websites. Total Length: ~126 km Type: Multimodal (road +

- Economic Growth: Boost local economies by enhancing access to markets, jobs, and services.
- Environmental Benefits: By planning for a multimodal approach, the project aims to distribute traffic efficiently, potentially reducing congestion and pollution.
End Point: Alibaug (Raigad District)
- Alibaug (West) – Connects to:
- Alibaug–Rewas road (towards Mandwa Jetty)
- Alibaug–Murud–Janjira road
- Proposed Alibaug–Dighi port connector.
