Part II: The Header and Biography
At the top of the editable sheet lies the identity of the monster. While it may seem cosmetic, filling this out on a digital interface sets the tone. This is a guide to finding, using, and
- Name: The name the character uses in the modern nights.
- Nature and Demeanor: These are the psychological anchor. In an editable sheet, many PDFs now feature dropdown menus. This is crucial because remembering the difference between a Celebrant and a Bon Vivant can be difficult. A dropdown with descriptions ensures the player stays true to their character's core motivations.
- Clan: The bloodline. For Storytellers running games with bloodlines from the V20 Companion or Dark Ages, the editable field allows you to type in obscure clans like the Salubri or Cappadocian, or even custom bloodlines created for the chronicle.
- Generation: This is a number that defines the power ceiling. On editable sheets, this number often dictates the maximum trait ratings allowed in the lower sections (e.g., preventing a 13th-generation neonate from having a Strength of 6).
3. Troubleshooting Common Issues
| Problem | Solution | |---------|----------| | Can’t type in a field | The PDF might be locked. Try MrGone’s “Full Form” version. | | Dots (•) won’t fill | Click repeatedly on the dot circle – some sheets use toggle buttons. | | Numbers don’t auto-calculate | V20 form-fillables rarely auto-calc. You must type Health, Willpower, etc. manually. | | Fields disappear after saving | Use “Save As” instead of just closing. Avoid browser-based PDF viewers. | Part II: The Header and Biography At the
1. Auto-Calculation (The Holy Grail)
The best sheets have hidden JavaScript or formulas. When you raise your Strength from 2 to 3, the sheet should automatically recalculate your Brawl dice pool or your Melee total. This reduces mental math and speeds up gameplay.
2. The "Merit & Flaw" Logjam
V20 is famous for its massive list of Merits and Flaws (from Lore of the Clans and the V20 Companion). There is never enough space on the standard two-page spread. Editable sheets often allow you to resize text or expand fields, letting you actually write out what "Haven (Security 4)" and "Enemy (Ventrue Elder 5)" actually mean.
5. The Sidebar (Derived Stats)
- Willpower: Equals your Courage + Self-Control (usually). This changes based on edition rules, but in V20, Willpower is usually calculated from your virtues or set manually. Check your sheet's auto-calculation.
- Blood Pool: The "Petri dish" looking circle.
- Max Blood Pool is determined by Generation. (13th Gen = 10 Blood; 12th Gen = 11 Blood).
- Click the bubbles to mark current spent blood.
