Phase A: Install the USB-to-Serial Driver (Before Connecting the DSP)

  3. Restart your PC.
  4. Now, plug in the USB-to-Serial adapter.
  5. Open Device Manager (right-click Start button → Device Manager).
  6. Expand Ports (COM & LPT). You should see “USB Serial Port (COMx)” – note the COM port number (e.g., COM4).

Connecting via Ethernet (Faster but Tricky)

  1. Connect the Protea 48 to a switch or directly to your PC using a crossover cable (or standard cable with Auto-MDIX).
  2. Set your PC's IP address to 192.168.1.100 (Subnet mask 255.255.255.0).
  3. In DLMS, go to File > Communication Setup > Ethernet.
  4. Enter the unit's IP (Default is usually 192.168.1.101).
  5. Port: 8000
  6. Click Connect.

If you see "Device not found," press the front panel encoder on the Protea to navigate to Utility > Network Settings to verify or change the IP. software dlms ashly protea 48 install
