Report: Popular Anime Series and Manga Recommendations
Prepared for: General Audience / New & Intermediate Fans
Date: April 2026
Purpose: To provide a structured guide to highly recommended anime and manga across major genres.
18. Death Note
- The Required Classic: If you have only seen one anime, it’s probably this.
- Plot: A genius high schooler finds a notebook. Write a name, they die. He decides to become "God of the New World" by killing criminals. A genius detective ("L") hunts him.
- Recommendation: Stop watching after episode 25 (the logical ending point). Read the manga for the full, slightly weaker ending.
15. Spy x Family
- The Vibe: James Bond meets The Incredibles meets Full House.
- Plot: A spy (Loid) adopts a psychic orphan (Anya) and marries an assassin (Yor) to maintain world peace. None know each other's secrets.
- Why it’s popular: Anya is the most meme-able anime character of the decade ("Waku Waku").
- Recommendation: The anime is colorful and joyful.
Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (64 eps)
- Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Drama
- Why: Often called a perfect anime. It has a gripping story about two brothers who use alchemy to try to restore their bodies after a failed experiment. Excellent pacing, memorable characters, no filler, and a satisfying ending.
- Manga: Complete, 27 volumes. The anime follows it faithfully.
Anime: Monster (74 eps)
- Genre: Mystery, Psychological Thriller, Drama
- Why: A brilliant Japanese surgeon in post-Cold War Germany saves a boy's life – who grows up to become a monstrous serial killer. Slow-burn, realistic, and riveting.
- Manga: Complete, 18 volumes. Considered Naoki Urasawa's masterpiece.
Anime: Death Note (37 eps)
- Genre: Psychological Thriller, Supernatural, Mystery
- Why: A brilliant but bored student finds a notebook that kills anyone whose name he writes in it. A cat-and-mouse game with a genius detective. Hooked from episode one.
- Manga: Complete, 12 volumes. Art is detailed and dark.
