Part 9. Upgrading vs. Fresh Install

If you have an older version (e.g., 12.0) and want to move to a newer version (e.g., 12.5), do not uninstall the old one.

Upgrade path:

1. Stop the NetFlow Analyzer service.
2. Back up the entire \NetFlowAnalyzer folder.
3. Run the new installer over the same directory.
4. The installer detects existing DB and data – it will only overwrite binaries.
5. Run upgrade.bat from \bin folder as Administrator.

Fresh install is recommended only if your current database is corrupt or you are migrating OS. manageengine netflow analyzer installation guide

Step 5: First Startup (Can take 3-5 minutes)

• A command prompt window (NetFlow Analyzer console) opens.
• Wait until you see:

  NetFlow Analyzer server started successfully.
  Web server is running on port 6060
  

• Do not close this window. (To run as a background service later, use NetFlowAnalyzerService.exe.)

Step 7 – Complete Installation

• Click Install. The process takes 5–10 minutes.
• At the end, check Start NetFlow Analyzer and click Finish.

Step 2: Download and Extract

sudo chmod +x NetFlowAnalyzer_64bit.bin

6. Security Hardening Recommendations

For production deployments:

• Enable HTTPS – Replace the self-signed certificate with a CA-signed one.
• Change default ports – Move web and flow collector ports away from well-known numbers.
• Limit source IPs – Use firewall rules to accept flow data only from known exporters.
• Run as non-root user – Linux installations must never run as root; use nobody or a dedicated netflow user.

Downloading the Installer

1. Visit the ManageEngine website (www.manageengine.com) and navigate to the NetFlow Analyzer product page.
2. Click on the Download button to download the installer file (.exe or .bin file).
