Community Reactions to the Update
Since the patch went live last Friday, the Lovely Craft forums have exploded with reactions.
- User xX_RedstoneMaster_Xx wrote: "I thought I was safe in my own bedroom. I put down a Treat Basket just to look at it. Next thing I know, I’m sliding down a ice tunnel into a room full of parrots wearing witch hats. 10/10, best Halloween update."
- User CottageCoreWitch added: "The lovely craft piston trap is actually terrifying when invisible. I screamed. My cat ran away. I love it."
The update has sparked a "Trap Arms Race." Builders are now designing dual-action piston traps that push players sideways into painting portals, leading to the Nether. lovely craft piston trap halloween update best
1. The Trick-or-Treat Floor (Instant Drop Trap)
This is arguably the best trap for your front porch. It looks like a festive welcome mat, but it is a 3x3 retractable floor. Lovely Craft — Piston Trap Guide (Halloween Update)

Materials Needed:
- 9 Sticky Pistons
- 9 Redstone Repeaters (set to 2 ticks)
- 1 Pressure Plate (Wooden or Gold)
- Halloween Carpet (Orange/Black wool)
- A 10-block deep pit (lined with Obsidian)
How to Build (The Halloween Update Way): New Blocks :
- Dig a 3x3 hole that is 10 blocks deep. At the bottom, place your collection chests and a layer of campfires (covered by trapdoors) to kill mobs quickly.
- At ground level, place 9 sticky pistons facing upward in a 3x3 grid.
- Place any solid block on top of the pistons, then cover those blocks with Orange Halloween Carpet.
- Wire the pistons to a central redstone line connected to a pressure plate.
- The Halloween Twist: Place a Jack-o'-Lantern in the center of the trap. When a mob steps on the plate, the pistons retract. The mob falls, and the jack-o'-lantern falls with them, providing light in the kill chamber so you can see your loot.
Why it’s the best: It exploits the new "Crunch" mechanic. If a Shrieking Scarecrow triggers the plate, the falling jack-o'-lantern crushes it on the way down for an instant kill.
B. The Looting Candy Mechanic
The Halloween update added "Looting Candy." When a piston kills a mob without fire (i.e., crushing or suffocation), the mob drops 2x more Candy Corn than fire or lava kills. Because pistons suffocate mobs against solid blocks, you get double the event currency. This is the secret reason piston traps are superior this month.
