Getting the LG AN-WF500 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Dongle to work on a Windows PC can be tricky because it was designed specifically for LG Smart TVs (2014 models). However, because it uses a standard Broadcom BCM43242 chipset, it is possible to use it on Windows with the right workaround. The "Workaround" Driver for Windows 10/11

Since LG does not provide official Windows drivers for this specific TV accessory, users often have success by "tricking" Windows into using a compatible driver from another device with the same Broadcom chipset.

Once upon a time, in the world of home entertainment, LG created the Go to product viewer dialog for this item.

, a sleek Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dongle designed primarily to give select LG TVs the gift of wireless connectivity. But as with many specialized gadgets, curious users eventually wondered: "Can I use this on my Windows PC?" The story of the LG AN-WF500

Windows driver is one of clever workarounds and hidden identities. The Mystery of the Official Driver

If you search the official LG Support pages, you will find plenty of manuals and warranty information, but you won't find a dedicated "Windows Driver". This is because the AN-WF500 was strictly intended for television hardware, not for general computer use. In the eyes of LG, it was a TV accessory, not a PC peripheral. The Plot Twist: The Netgear Connection

The story takes a turn when tech enthusiasts discovered that the

is actually built on a common chipset. When plugged into a Windows PC, it often shows up as an unknown "Remote Download Wireless Adapter".

The "secret" to making it work involves a bit of digital masquerading:

The Imposter Driver: Many users found success by using drivers meant for the Netgear WNDA3100v2

. By manually pointing Windows to this driver, the LG dongle suddenly gains the ability to see Wi-Fi networks.

Forceful Introduction: Because the hardware IDs don't match perfectly, Windows often warns that the driver might be incompatible. Users who simply "ignore the warning" and proceed often find their "TV dongle" transformed into a fully functional PC Wi-Fi adapter. A Modern Conclusion

Today, while you can still find unofficial "LG Wireless USB Adapter" drivers on third-party sites like Driver Talent or Driver Scape, the journey is mostly a relic of the past. Most modern Windows 10 and 11 systems will either recognize the chipset automatically or require the Netgear workaround to bring this old TV accessory back to life on a desktop. Since official Windows support is limited, users typically follow a "manual update" method using drivers from similar Broadcom-based devices. Method 1: Using Generic Broadcom Drivers

You can often use drivers designed for other dual-band Broadcom USB adapters, such as the Netgear WNDA3100v2.

The LG AN-WF500 Driver for Windows: Everything You Need to Know

If you’ve found an old LG AN-WF500 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dongle in a drawer and are wondering if it can give your PC a wireless boost, you're not alone. While originally designed for LG TVs from the 2014 era, its internal hardware is standard enough that it can work on Windows—if you know where to look. What is the LG AN-WF500?

The AN-WF500 is a dual-purpose USB 2.0 adapter. Its primary job was adding wireless capabilities to "Smart TV Ready" LG models (like the LB5800 or PB6600 series), enabling features like the Magic Remote and Wireless Sound Sync. Key Specs: Wi-Fi: IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n (Dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz). Bluetooth: Version 3.0. Chipset: Broadcom BCM43242. Finding a Windows Driver

LG does not officially provide Windows drivers for this dongle on their Support Portal because it was never intended for PC use. However, because it uses the Broadcom BCM43242 chipset, you can often find compatible drivers through third-party repositories: LG AN-WF500 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Dongle - B&H Photo

Official Windows drivers for the LG AN-WF500 do not exist because the device is designed exclusively as a proprietary Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dongle for specific LG Smart TVs and audio systems. Why Drivers are Unavailable

Proprietary Hardware: The AN-WF500 is intended to enable wireless connectivity for LG LED LCD TVs (e.g., LB49, LB57, UB83 series), Sound Bars, and Sound Plates.

No PC Support: LG's official support pages for this model provide manuals and warranty information but explicitly state "No softwares available for download" for this specific accessory.

Incompatibility: Unlike standard USB Wi-Fi adapters, this dongle uses a specific interface meant for LG's internal TV software, making it generally unrecognized by Windows as a standard network or Bluetooth device. Potential Workarounds

If you are trying to add Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to a PC, it is recommended to use a universal adapter instead of this specific LG model. However, you can try the following for standard devices:

Generic Drivers: While not guaranteed to work for this specific proprietary dongle, Windows sometimes attempts to install generic LG Wireless USB Adapter drivers if the hardware chipset matches a known standard.

Standard Dongles: For reliable Windows performance, use a standard USB Bluetooth or Wi-Fi dongle, which usually works via plug-and-play or through Windows Update.

Are you trying to connect a Magic Remote or a Soundbar to your PC using this dongle? LG AN-WF500.AUS: Support, Manuals, Warranty & More

It looks like you are searching for a Windows driver for the LG AN-WF500, which is a Wi-Fi USB dongle (adapter) for certain LG TVs (e.g., LG Smart TV models from around 2012–2014).

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. The AN-WF500 is not designed for PC use – It was made specifically for LG TVs to add Wi-Fi connectivity. It uses a proprietary firmware/driver that is not intended for standard Windows PCs.

  2. No official LG Windows driver exists – LG does not provide a Windows driver for AN-WF500. Plugging it into a Windows PC will likely result in the device not being recognized or showing as an "Unknown USB device."

  3. If you still want to try on Windows – In rare cases, it might use a common chipset (e.g., Ralink/MediaTek). You could check the USB Vendor/Product ID (using Device Manager → Properties → Details → Hardware IDs) and search for a generic driver for that chipset. However, success is not guaranteed, and even if it installs, stability may be poor.

  4. Alternative advice – For a PC, just buy a standard USB Wi-Fi adapter that clearly states "Windows 10/11 compatible." They are inexpensive and widely available.

If you meant to ask for a driver for an LG TV (not Windows), the AN-WF500 requires no separate driver on the TV—it works when plugged into a compatible LG Smart TV.

Finding a working driver for the LG AN-WF500 on Windows can be notoriously difficult. The core issue is that LG does not officially support this dongle on Windows; it is designed exclusively for LG TVs.

However, it uses a standard Wi-Fi chip that has Windows drivers available. The most helpful "paper" (resource) for this topic is actually a community-driven guide on how to force the generic driver.

Here is a breakdown of the technical details and the step-by-step guide to get it working.

Option B: Logitech Options Unifying Software (Does Not Work)

A common myth is that the AN-WF500 can be reprogrammed with Logitech’s Unifying Software. This is false. The RF chips are completely different. Do not attempt to flash Logitech firmware onto the LG dongle—it will brick it.

Step 2: Download the correct driver

Do not use a generic “driver updater” tool. Instead:

  • Download the Ralink RT3370 Driver for your Windows version (7, 8, 10, or 11).
  • Reliable sources include the official MediaTek legacy site or reputable driver repositories (be cautious of malware). Look for version 5.01.26.0000 or newer.

Step 1: Physical Preparation

  • Insert the LG AN-WF500 dongle into a USB 2.0 port (avoid USB 3.0 ports if possible, as they can cause 2.4GHz interference).
  • Remove any other wireless mice dongles from your PC to prevent signal collision.
  • Insert fresh batteries into your LG wireless mouse.

Part 6: How to Verify the Driver is Properly Installed

After following the steps above, here is how to confirm success:

  1. Device Manager Check: Navigate to Human Interface Devices. Look for LG AN-WF500 Wireless Receiver or LG Virtual HID Device. It should have no yellow triangle.
  2. Event Viewer: Press Win + X > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System. Filter for "DriverFrameworks-UserMode." Look for Event ID 2100 (Device started successfully).
  3. Functional Test: The side buttons (forward/back) should work in your web browser. The scroll wheel tilt should scroll horizontally in Excel.

How to Install the LG AN-WF500 Windows Driver (Step-by-Step)

Since LG never officially released a Windows .exe installer for this dongle, you must use the Ralink RT2870/RT3370 driver set. Follow these steps carefully.

Final Verdict:

  • If you need a quick fix: Use the Ralink driver guide above.
  • If you need stability: Throw away the AN-WF500 and buy a $15 Realtek-based Wi-Fi dongle from Amazon.
  • If you want the device for its original purpose: Plug it into an LG projector, enable Screen Share on your LG phone or TV, and ignore Windows entirely.

Save this article. If you successfully forced the Ralink driver onto your AN-WF500, leave a comment below (on the original blog post) with your Windows version and driver date to help others.
