Kenshi: Shift+F12 Guide
Moving a Misplaced Building
- Open editor.
- Click “Move”.
- Click and drag the building. Use arrow keys for fine movement.
- Click “Save Mod” (if you want permanent changes) or just close.
Important Limitations & Risks
| Action | Safe? | Notes |
|--------|-------|-------|
| Regenerate navmesh | ✅ Yes | Often required after base building. |
| Move your own buildings | ⚠️ Maybe | Can break building functionality if moved too far. |
| Delete world buildings | ❌ Risky | May break quests or world states. |
| Add NPCs | ❌ Risky | Spawned NPCs may not behave correctly or duplicate. |
| Save as mod | ✅ Safe | Creates a separate mod file (doesn’t overwrite vanilla). |
6. Difference between Shift+F11 and Shift+F12
Players often confuse the two:
- Shift+F11: Opens the Animation/Body Editor. This is for posing characters, creating screenshots, or changing body shape/fat/strong. It does not affect gameplay mechanics.
- Shift+F12: Opens the World/AI Editor. This changes the logic of the world—factions, relations, and town states.
Troubleshooting
- Shift+F12 not opening: check overlay/inputs — some controllers or overlays capture F-keys. Try disabling overlays (Discord, Steam) and ensure keyboard drivers aren’t intercepting the key.
- Commands missing or greyed out: your game version or installed mods may remove or alter debug features. Try disabling mods to restore default debug functionality.
- Game crashes after using features: restore from backup save; report reproducible crashes to mod authors or the game’s support/forums.
