"Margaret, 67, a retired librarian, has not dated since her husband ran off with his assistant 15 years ago. She keeps her late mother’s dementia at bay by visiting her daily. Enter Leo, 71, a former botanist whose wife passed away. He tends the garden outside the care home. He leaves her a single rose on her mother’s windowsill every Tuesday. Margaret thinks it’s the staff. Leo is too shy to correct her. The storyline is not about grand passion; it is about the 47 seconds of eye contact they share when she finally catches him in the act."

That is a mature romantic storyline. It is slow, conscious, and devastatingly beautiful.
