Change Update On Htc One X9 - Firmware
This guide covers what changes during a firmware update, the step-by-step procedure, and critical warnings specific to this 2016 mid-range device.
How to obtain and install
- OTA: Recommended for stock devices—install over Wi‑Fi with sufficient battery (≥50%).
- Manual flash: Download official RUU or factory image from HTC support or trusted carrier site; follow HTC-specific fastboot/ruu instructions.
- Use official tools only to avoid warranty/bootloader issues.
Step 2 – Download Correct Firmware
Do not use random firmware from untrusted sources. Good sources: Firmware Change Update on HTC One X9
- XDA HTC One X9 General section: Look for threads by top devs like LlabTooFeR or santod040.
- HTC RUU collection: Search for “HTC One X9 RUU 2.18.709.5” (match your CID/MID).
Critical: Your phone’s CID (Carrier ID) must match the firmware. To find yours: This guide covers what changes during a firmware

Common CIDs: HTC__621 (Taiwan), HTC__001 (Europe), BS_US001 (USA). How to obtain and install
Step 1: Enable Developer Options & OEM Unlocking
- Go to Settings > About phone.
- Tap Build number repeatedly (7 times) until you see "You are now a developer!"
- Go back to the main Settings menu. You will see a new option called Developer options.
- Enter Developer options and enable:
- OEM unlocking (This is critical).
- USB debugging.
How to Update
- Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network.
- Navigate to Settings > About > Software Updates.
- Tap Check Now.
- Download the firmware package (battery must be ≥50%).
- The device will reboot into the bootloader to apply the update. Do not power off.
Note: Because this is a firmware-level change (affecting modem, secure enclave, and power management ICs), the installation will take slightly longer than a typical OTA — approximately 4–6 minutes. A single automatic reboot will occur.
Known Limitations
- Rooted devices with modified
lk.bin (little kernel) or custom recovery will fail this update. You must restore stock firmware images first.
- The update does not alter the Android version (still 6.0 Marshmallow) nor the kernel version (3.10.72+).
