Step 3: Installation Walkthrough

Once the .msi installer is downloaded (file size approx. 35–50 MB), follow this process:

  1. Close Autodesk Revit completely. (The installer will fail if Revit is running.)
  2. Right-click the downloaded Lumion_LiveSync_for_Revit_Setup.msi.
  3. Select "Run as Administrator".
  4. Accept the End User License Agreement (EULA).
  5. Choose the installation path (default is fine for most users).
  6. Click "Install".
  7. Once finished, click "Finish" or "Close".

Verification: Open Revit. A new tab labeled "Lumion" or "External Tools" should appear on the ribbon menu. If you see the LiveSync icon (a green circle with a plug), the installation succeeded. Close Autodesk Revit completely

⚠️ LiveSync does not work with Lumion on macOS or Revit for Mac (even via Boot Camp is not officially supported).


Step 4: Connecting Revit to Lumion for the First Time

With the plugin installed, here is how to launch the top-tier workflow:

  1. Open your Revit project (3D view recommended).
  2. Click the Lumion tab.
  3. Click the LiveSync button (green icon).
  4. First-time prompt: Revit will ask you to specify your Lumion executable path. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Lumion [version]\Lumion.exe and select it.
  5. Lumion will launch automatically.
  6. Within 5–10 seconds, your Revit model will materialize in Lumion’s viewport.

You are now synced. Move a window in Revit. Watch it move in Lumion instantly. Add terrain in Lumion—your Revit model adjusts its elevation base.
