Part 1: Why "Burp Suite Professional License Key" Generators Are a Scam

PortSwigger, the company behind Burp Suite, is not naive. They have spent nearly two decades perfecting their licensing infrastructure. Modern Burp Suite Pro (versions 2022+) uses a sophisticated online activation system tied to your hardware ID and email.

When you search for a "key," you will typically find three types of malicious files:

  1. Keygens (Key Generators): These executables claim to generate a valid license. In reality, 99% of them contain malware (Trojan horses, info-stealers, or ransomware).
  2. Cracked .jar files: Users often replace the original burpsuite_pro_v*.jar with a modified version. These often have backdoors that send your scanned targets and found vulnerabilities to a third-party server.
  3. License text strings: You might see strings of numbers and letters. PortSwigger’s server checks these online. If they are blacklisted or don't match the server’s signature, the software reverts to "Free Edition" within 24 hours.
