Section 8: Exposure Controls and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
The Abro spray paint MSDS does not just recommend PPE; it specifies minimum requirements based on occupational exposure limits (OELs). Note: This is a representative template based on
Engineering controls:
- Use spray booths with exhaust ventilation.
- Local exhaust ventilation to maintain airborne concentrations below the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) for toluene (200 ppm OSHA) or acetone (1000 ppm).
Respiratory protection:
- General use: Half-face respirator with organic vapor cartridges (NIOSH approved, e.g., 3M 6001).
- Confined space: Supplied-air respirator or SCBA.
- Note: Dust masks are NOT effective against solvent vapors.
Skin protection:
- Gloves: Butyl rubber, nitrile rubber, or Viton. (Latex gloves are quickly permeated by acetone/toluene.)
- Clothing: Chemical-resistant apron and coveralls.
Eye protection:
- Safety goggles with indirect ventilation (not just safety glasses). A face shield is recommended for prolonged spraying.
